    Hey Duesseldorfer!
    ;-)
A friend once bought the FastFret stuff and I've tried it as well as Dunlop's String Cleaner and Conditioner Ultraglide No. 65.
To me they both felt the same...they take some of the gunk off of older strings and give you SOME of the brilliance of new strings back.
But I noticed some oily residue on my fingers after playing, even after wiping the neck and strings down and I found the strings to be a tad more noisy when I slide up and down the neck...kinda hard to describe, though.
IMHO and YMMV it's not worth the effort...there is better stuff out there to clean and condition the fretboard and when the strings go dead I simply change them.
BTW...have you ever tried Elixir strings?
I've only tried em on my Acoustic and they outlast any other brand of strings. Got them about half a year on the guitar and they almost sound as brilliant as they were the day I put em on...but I haven't tried em on an electric guitar yet.

I'm a sweaty mother fucker when i play so i just have surrendered to the fact that I have to change my strings often. when im done playing, i take a towel and I pinch each string in the towel and wipe it up and down as far as I can go. this tends to help me a little, but I dont bother with all those products out there that prolong the life of your strings.

i've had the same set of strings on my JS1000 for half a year. yes i know you're supposed to change them often but even wiping them before and after each session works fine. of course, fastfret is pretty cheap and lasts a while so you might as well get some.
    is anyone else using d'addarios?

I use Fast Fret all the time, IMO it is good for people like me who's hands sweat more than others. It comes in a tube with a little wooden handle (kind of like an old school shaving cream brush handle). Attached to the handle is a wrapped cylider of material which kind of resembles Brasso if you know what that is. The material wears down as you use it. All you do is go up and down the strings and some people like myself also go over the bridge and the nut with it. There is also a little soft cotton cloth similar to a polishing cloth in the tube that you use to wipe the areas you used the fast fret on. I like it because one tube will last you a while, and if you use it frequently enough, it will preserve the life of your strings. I typically use it before and after playing/practicing. I have tried the Elixir strings, but I have found that the coating on them kind of causes a loss in tone, not a major loss that an untrained ear could notice, but not as nice as uncoated strings, plus, the Elixirs are almost twice as costly, (I use Ernie Ball 11's and 10's). I have never had a problem with my strings being too "noisy, and have never had any oily residue after using Fast Fret. But as I said my hands sweat a little when I play. The only problem I have ever had with Fast Fret is if you are not careful when wiping down your strings with the cloth, you will develop little strands that will bind themselves around the string that are almost impossible to remove, This is not an issue if you take your time while wiping the strings down.

I greatly prefer Finger Ease spray. It's a pretty essential road tool. Spray before playing and wipe and also after playing when the guitar goes back in the case.
